What is IELTS Speaking?

In IELTS speaking you will have an in-person interview with an examiner.  The interview will last 11 – 14 minutes and will have three parts. IELTS speaking is exactly the same for general and academic IELTS.The examiner will ask the questions and control the length of the test.  You do not need to know about any specific topics to score well on IELTS speaking.  You will only be graded on your ability to communicate clearly in English.

Misconceptions regarding IELTS Speaking

THE ASSESSOR MUST AGREE WITH THE SPEAKER
It is likely that the examiner does not agree with candidates opinion always; however, this does not mean that they will reduce candidate bands. Still possible to achieve a band nine. Candidates are being assessed based on the four factors mentioned above. So, do not worry about the examiner’s opinions or emotions..
SOME EXAM CENERS ARE EASY
IELTS ensures that the test takes place in a fair environment. All testing centres have the same criteria and standard and evaluate the candidates with the same guidelines. Every assessor has to undergo strict training, and they know that their work is being monitored. Therefore, the candidate should not bother about the place of examination
LEARNING HIGH VOCABULARY WORDS WILL HELP SCORE BAND 9
Vocabulary is an essential part of IELTS, and one inevitably receives superior results for using high-end vocabulary words. Nevertheless, this does not mean that the candidate ought to put complex words unnecessarily to impress the examiner. It looks unnatural, and the coherence and cohesion will not be adequate for a decent band. The candidate has to use a wide range of vocabulary, but this should only be done appropriately.
CANDIDATES MUST SOUND LIKE A NATIVE SPEAKER TO GET A DECENT PRONUNCIATION SCORE.
The assessor does not expect the candidate to speak in a specific accent. If the speech is understandable, the speaker can at least score a 6 for pronunciation rather than faking an accent and losing the score totally. It is possible to improve the score just by adding some emotion and expression to your voice.
DIFFERENT COUNTRIES OFFER DIFFERENT IELTS TESTS.
IELTS test has two different versions – Academic and General Training. Each version is conducted the same way in different places. The candidate should not worry about taking the test in a different country just to improve the score.
THE EXAMINER CANNOT BE ASKED TO REPEAT THE QUESTION
It is acceptable to ask the examiner to repeat the question. It is better to make the question clear rather than giving a completely wrong answer by not understanding the question. Even the native speakers have to ask the examiner to repeat the question.
